On Sunday, August 11th, the International Olympic Committee announced that US gymnast Jordan Chiles had been stripped of her medal. They also added that the bronze medal would instead be awarded to Romanian Ana Bărbosu. She has also made a good performance at the Paris Olympics.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled that the initial inquiry submitted over Chile’s score was filed one minute after the deadline.

“The video footage provided was not available to USA Gymnastics prior to the tribunal’s decision. Thus USAG did not have the opportunity to previously submit it,” The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) said.
Jordan Chiles’ original score of 13.666 would be reinstated, and Bărbosu’s ranking—with a score of 13.700—would be improved to third.
The associated party also ruled last Saturday that Landi’s appeal to have 0.1 added to Chiles’ score came outside the 1-minute window. Because of these changes, Jordan Chiles has been stripped of her medal and will be properly awarded to Bărbosu, according to the IOC.
“We are in touch with the NOC of Romania to discuss the reallocation ceremony and with USOPC regarding the return of the bronze medal,“ the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee stated.
“We firmly believe that Jordan rightfully earned the bronze medal. There were critical errors in both the initial scoring by the International Gymnastics Federation and the subsequent CAS appeal process that need to be addressed.”

In light of the situation, Jordan Chiles has posted the following on her social media. “I am taking this time and removing myself from social media for my mental health thank you,” she stated.
Before the recent announcement, Jordan Chiles’ medals consisted of 1 gold and 1 bronze. The bronze medal is currently up for debate. It is also unclear whether the Olympic performer should return it or keep it.
