GMA Public Affairs’ “Tunay Na Buhay” show features Kara David, an award-winning Filipino journalist and presenter. Kara and host Pia Arcangel talk about David’s origins in the network and how she’s grown since then.

Kara David welcomed “Tunay Na Buhay” into her home and sat with Pia to discuss her accidental jump to being a presenter. During her beginnings, Kara was a Production Assistant for one of Jessica Soho’s former GMA shows.

She said she was working late one night, transcribing, when someone called in the radio looking for a reporter. No one else was present, so Jessica asked Kara to cover a story of a sinking boat.

After that, she was promoted to writer from assistant. A few other shows Kara participated in were Brigada Siete, OFW Diaries, and i-Witness. Recently, Kara David’s “Kapalit ng Kapangyarihan” went viral on the internet for sharing the stories of sexually abused young girls in a tribe.

After shooting a documentary in Mindoro, she started a foundation there. The stories of the people touched her heart so much that she returned seven years later to help the tribe again.

When asked about which stories she wants to tell in the future, she responded, “Gawan mo ng pinakamagandang storya, kahit sino pa ‘yan.”

Moreover, they also mentioned her foundation, “Project Malasakit.” Kara said that her missions help her restore her faith in the world after listening to and sharing unfortunate stories.

“Every day as a journalist, you’re exposed to a lot of problems, at nakakadepress ‘yun. And then magkakaroon ng glimmer of hope. Na.. hindi, pwede natin silang mabago. You can change the world one child at a time.”

They also mentioned Kara David’s daughter, Julia, who is now nineteen. The journalist said that she tries to be a cool mom.

“Ang relationship namin ni Julia– parang may negotiation kami,” Kara said.

Kara is a journalist, wife, and mom. She has also taught at UP Diliman for the past three years. This is also where she completed her Mass Communication degree.
