The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) confirms that the tropical depression they’ve been monitoring intensified into a tropical storm as it entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at 2 AM on Monday, November 4.
The tropical storm was given the local name Marce but is internationally known as Yinxing. Marce is the Philippines’ 13th tropical cyclone alert for 2024 and is the first for November.
According to PAGASA’s 5 AM report, tropical storm Marce was located 935 kilometers (km) east of Eastern Visayas. It has winds of 65 kilometers per hour (km/hr) near the center and gusts of up to 80 km/hr.
Marce is also moving west-northwestward at 25 km/hr and is forecasted to move northwestward until Wednesday, November 6.

The tropical cyclone alert also warns that a northeasterly wind flow could surge within the week as tropical storm Marce moves northwestward within the PAR.
Starting Monday and Tuesday, November 5, it may also bring rains over extreme Northern Luzon and the eastern portion of Luzon.
In addition, while Marce is far from the Philippine landmass, its trough may cause isolated rain or thunderstorms on Monday in Eastern Visayas, Bicol, most of Cagayan Valley, Aurora, and Quezon.
Furthermore, PAGASA has not announced tropical cyclone wind signals yet, but there’s a chance that Signal Number 1 may be raised for some portions of Cagayan by Tuesday.
In case tropical storm Marce intensifies into another typhoon, it’s good to be prepared and stay informed for your safety. Here’s what you should keep in mind if the tropical cyclone affects your area:
What to do during a severe tropical storm?
The first thing you should do during a severe tropical storm is to avoid going outdoors, especially during high winds, since flying debris can be dangerous. If there’s time, secure your home by closing doors and windows. Bring pets and outdoor furniture in to keep them safe from rain and wind.
It’s also best to stay updated on local news so you’ll know if authorities issue evacuation orders or warnings about worsening conditions. If you have access to social media, use it to check for emergency instructions and update your loved ones about your safety.
