Singer-songwriter couple TJ Monterde and KZ Tandingan sit down with Billboard Philippines to discuss the success of “Palagi.” 

Here, the couple mentioned receiving comments about the song rekindling romances. They also talked about the pressures of releasing the duet version.

The song “Palagi” by TJ Monterde has been out for over a year, yet it continues to dominate the music charts. Monterde wrote the song as a gift for his wife to celebrate knowing each other for ten years.

When talking about its success, KZ says, “‘Palagi’ is one of those songs na, hindi lang siya ‘yung song na gusto mo. It has become the song na parang– Naalala mo pa ba ‘yung nabasa nating comments sa isang video last time na, ‘Do you know what? This song rekindled my romance with my husband.’ So ganun siya ka lalim na song for other people.”

KZ added, “So sabi ko, if I’m not gonna add value to that (the newly released duet version). Parang I don’t think dapat ko siyang gawin. So, natakot ako kasi, lalong-lalo na kasi magkaiba talaga kaming artists.”

However, her husband, TJ Monterde, reassured her about releasing the new version. The “Toyo” singer shared that “Kung merong tao dapat makasama sa duet diyan, ikaw lang kasi ikaw si ‘Palagi.’”

She says that she did the song for him, even if the public wouldn’t receive it positively. Fortunately, the new version of the hit song garnered positive responses from listeners.

Furthermore, TJ shared that a lot of people approached them to compliment the song. He says that they’ve been told that a lot of couples now use it as their theme song. He shares, “Theme song namin ng asawa ko ‘yung song mo. Parang sobrang naging close sila ulit ng wife niya dahil sa song.” 

Monterde says that he feels very validated and feels like songwriting is his purpose. In addition, the couple says its no longer just their song, its everybody’s song now.

TJ says that he likes expressing his love for KZ, not just through words but also melodies. During TJ Monterde & KZ Tandingan’s wedding, Monterde sang his vows to his wife.
