After an extensive battle with breast cancer, Suzanne Somers passed away at 73 on October 15, 2023
The statement was released by Somer’s publicist, R. Couri Hay. “She survived an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years. Suzanne was surrounded by her loving husband, Alan, her son, Bruce, and her immediate family. Her family was gathered to celebrate her 77th birthday on October 16th. Instead, they will celebrate her extraordinary life and want to thank her millions of fans and followers who loved her dearly.”
The ‘Three’s Company’ star began her fight against breast cancer in the early 2000s, where she underwent a lumpectomy. Somers was supposed to turn on the following day, October 16.
The Hollywood star has left behind her husband, three children, and six grandchildren.
Somers has faced numerous challenges in life, even from a young age. Somers grew up in San Bruno, California, with an abusive and alcoholic father. Somers also divorced her first husband, Bruce Somers, at age 20.
Suzanne gained popularity for her participation in ‘American Graffiti’ which landed her an appearance on ‘The Tonight Show’ before finally getting her role in ‘Three’s Company.’
Although Suzanne Somers’ cause of death was very tragic, Somers’ has lived a life where she has been rightfully applauded for her work in the entertainment industry.
In July of this year, the actress took to Instagram to say that her cancer had returned, telling Entertainment Tonight, “Like any cancer patient, when you get that dreaded, ‘it’s back,’ you get a pit in your stomach. Then I put on my battle gear and go to war” around the same time she shared the news on Instagram. The actress added, “this is a familiar battleground for me, and I’m very tough.”
Somers previously faced backlash from the American Cancer Society for sharing her chemical-free lifestyle to fight cancer and publicly advocated against chemotherapy.
Page Six was the first to break the news about the death of Suzanne Somers. She was reportedly in good spirits and was surrounded by her loved ones. Somers was still able to give an interview with People Magazine about her 74th birthday plans, where she stated that she planned to be with her nearest and dearest.
