According to Netflix’s description, “The Deliverance” synopsis revolves around a family experiencing strange, demonic occurrences in their Indiana home. This event convinces them and the community that the house may be a portal to Hell.
The film was made available on August 30 and is directed by Lee Daniels, known for working on the film “Precious.” The film’s cast includes Andra Day, Glenn Close, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Caleb McLaughlin, and Mo’Nique.
Like “The Exorcist” films, “The Deliverance” focuses on demonic possessions and themes of religion.
But just exactly why it gained that much attention? Especially with multiple exorcism-themed films made available on the streaming platform? The true story “The Deliverance” was based on is from the Ammons haunting case, which is more commonly known as the “200 Demons House” case.

The case took place in Gary, Indiana, back in 2011, the involved individuals consisted of Latoya Ammons, her mother, and her three children. At the time, they reported a series of paranormal events that have occurred since moving into the house. These experiences can range from swarming black flies to physical assaults.
Ammon and her family have sought help from whoever they can, which led to Father Michael Magino performing multiple exorcisms on the family. Many have expressed skepticism on the case, with some investigators believing the entire events were heavily exaggerated.
When preparing for the film, Lee Daniels claimed to have spoken to Ammons several times.
“It’s my interpretation of her life story. I purposely didn’t want to meet her because I was nervous. But I spoke to her… And she’s lovely. She was at peace.
