The highly anticipated Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry, The Kingdom, has released its official trailer, captivating audiences with its ambitious storyline and visually stunning cinematography. 

Set to premiere during the 2024 MMFF, the film reimagines Filipino history, offering an alternate narrative of what the Philippines could have become if it had never been colonized.

A Star-Studded Cast and Visionary Direction

Directed by Michael Tuviera, The Kingdom cast includes Vic Sotto, Piolo Pascual, Sue Ramirez, Sid Lucero, Christine Reyes, and more. 

Vic Sotto takes on a dramatic role far from his usual comedic performances. 

“This is my first time to do a serious movie, from start to finish,” said Sotto.

A Bold Narrative

The trailer hints at a utopian society thriving in the absence of colonial influence, showcasing advanced Filipino culture, architecture, and traditions.

Sue Ramirez said, “It’s a family drama nobody has seen before,” in the promo for the movie. 

“Kaya galing na galing ako doon sa concept kasi parang, ‘Wow, oo nga no? Ang daming sumakop sa bansa natin pero wala man lang nakaisip, ano kayang hitsura ng Pilipinas kung hindi nangyari ‘yan lahat?’”
