Australian YouTuber Norme made a risky attempt to break the YouTuber World Record, which resulted in negative reactions from experts. Medical professionals have labeled the attempt as “utter madness.”

YouTuber Norme, who had 1.2 million subscribers on the online platform, made a risky attempt to stream for 12 straight days without sleep or breaks. Consequently, his dangerous stunt led to his followers contacting law enforcement out of concern.

As many have pointed out, the 19-year-old teen YouTuber appeared drowsy throughout the entire stream. Ultimately, he managed to stay awake for 264 hours and 24 minutes.

However, Norme later stated in his X/Twitter post that YouTube had suspended his livestream. “I got banned from YouTube. Literally 12 hours from my goal,” he lamented.

Meanwhile, many medical professionals have condemned YouTuber Norme for the stunt. For instance, Dr. Deborah Lee shared her thoughts in one interview, saying, “I think this is utter madness. If you want to kill yourself, this is a miserable, protracted way to do it. There is a very rare, genetically inherited condition called fatal insomnia.”

Furthermore, the medical expert continued to explain the potential risks. “Once insomnia sets in, the average life expectancy is three months to three years. There is no cure. Why would anyone of a sane mind want to put themselves through something similar?”

According to many professionals, people who lack 72 hours of sleep compromise their ability to perceive everything accurately. Guinness World Records also announced that it will no longer keep records involving voluntary sleep deprivation due to the growing concerns of participants suffering adverse effects.

YouTuber Norme had accepted the loss of the challenge and expressed his frustration for the failure.
