A supermoon with a rare partial lunar eclipse has been seen around the world. The event occurred on Tuesday night, September 17, 2024, UTC, with some of the most apparent sightings reported in the UK and US.

The eclipse was also reportedly visible in Europe, small parts of Asia, and the Middle East.

According to NASA, the moon entered Earth’s full shadow at 10:13 PM ET and exited it at 11:16 PM ET. The peak of the eclipse was expected to occur at 10:44 PM ET.

A supermoon occurs when the Moon is at its closest point to Earth during its orbit. The partial lunar eclipse is also a rare phenomenon. The latter only occurs when the Earth’s shadow covers part of the Moon.

Reports also stated this month’s Full Moon, known as the Harvest Moon, is the second of four “supermoons” that may occur in 2024.

The phenomenon has been captured by netizens, who shared their story on social media.

Just precisely what time is the lunar eclipse tonight? Sadly, there has been no further confirmation of when will the next phenomenon appear. It is also confirmed that there will be no Moon eclipse tonight in the Philippines. Aside from the solar eclipse that occurred back on April 8, reports stated that this month’s lunar eclipse is not visible in the area.
