A viral issue between a Starbucks manager and a customer takes the internet by storm. A customer’s video of their Starbucks Kalayaan Avenue experience has gained popularity. In the video, the user shared how they were treated by staff during an uncomfortable encounter.
TikTok user “innok” uploaded a three-minute video about his experience at Starbucks Kalayaan. In the caption, he shares how a homeless individual approached them. When they turned him down, he turned violent.
Due to this encounter, the customer sought the staff’s help and went behind the counter. Things escalated quickly, with the homeless man saying, “Hindi naman kita inaano ah bakit mo ako sinusumbong.”

Unfortunately, there was no video of this specific encounter. The user began recording only after they went behind the counter, where they sought assistance from the barista, who also happened to be the manager.
In the footage, you can hear the Starbucks manager stating, “I’m calling the barangay.” However, the customers insisted that the manager take action himself. One customer even reminded the manager that he was being recorded. Following this, the manager requested that they step outside.
This request only escalated the situation, intensifying tensions between the customers and the staff. The customer pointed out that they were being attacked, questioning why they were being asked to leave under such circumstances.
The situation further deteriorated as the manager began to yell at the customers. The TikTok user implored the manager to protect them from the homeless man, prompting the manager to shout back, “You want us to protect you?”
The manager continued, “You want us to protect you? I just want you to leave the store. Madadamay kami.” The customer responded, expressing that he didn’t expect the establishment to protect them.
When the manager of Starbucks Kalayaan inquired what they wanted her to do, the customer suggested they prevent the homeless man from attacking them. You could hear the manager reply, “How could I do that?”
This encounter at Kalayaan has ignited discussions online, dividing opinions between those who support the manager and those who empathize with the customers. Some comments from the original TikTok video included: “Bawal kasi jan sa loob ng counter.”

Another comment says, “Nasa loob sila ng premises ng SB. It is the store’s responsibility to intervene in any conflict. Nasaan ang malasakit ng manager 😭”
Other comments also defended the manager, including, “Hindi naman sila obliged to be in front or risk their life. Kaya nga tatawag ng barangay.”
