Netflix’s highly anticipated Korean survival drama series Squid Game: Season 2 has returned. The streaming juggernaut announced the news on August 1. It is confirmed and set to premiere on December 26.
Netflix revered the date in a minute-long video on its social media channels. Director, writer, and executive producer Hwang Do-hyuk shared his feelings as he is set to return to bring the series to life yet again.
“I am thrilled to see the seed that was planted in creating a new Squid Game grow and bear fruit through the end of this story,” Do-hyuk said. “We’ll do our best to make sure we bring you yet another thrill ride.”

Squid Game: Season 2 revolves around three years after Player 456 Sung Gio-hun (played by Lee Jae) won the death game. The character attempts to track down the organizers behind the events, and to do so, he has to participate in the deadly game again.
Returning alongside Lee Jae in the Squid Game: The season 2 cast line-up includes Lee Byung-hun, Gong Yoo, and Wi Ha-jun. They all confirmed that they would reprise their roles from the past season.
The new faces joining them are Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, and Yang Dong-guen. Their roles have been introduced as the new players involved in the game. There have been no further confirmations about their characters and additional casts.
Aside from announcing the release date for Squid Game: Season 2, Netflix also confirmed that a third season is already in progress. The streaming platform plans to release the final season in 2025, but fans still need to know the details.

The first season of Squid Game is both a financial and critical success. Actor Yeong-su won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor.
The series also made history at the 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards by being the first non-English-language series nominated for several recognitions. These recognitions include Best Cast in a Drama Series, Best Actor in a Drama Series for Lee Jung-jae, Best Actress in a Drama Series for Hoyeon Jung, and Best Stunt Ensemble for a Drama Series.
