The Seoul Western District Court has fined BTS member Suga ₩15 million (or ₱632,000) for a drunk driving incident in August 2024.
“I am very heavy-hearted and apologetic to bring you disappointing news,” the BTS member stated in his apology.
“Although there were no victims or damaged facilities in the process, it is entirely my responsibility without any excuse, and I sincerely apologize to everyone,” the K-pop star added.

He stated that he was not aware that driving an electric scooter while intoxicated is prohibited. After falling while attempting to park the scooter, nearby police administered a breathalyzer test. When the results came in, they revoked his license and fined him accordingly.
Suga confessed to the crime after undergoing a three-hour interrogation following the incident. His case was sent to the Seoul Western District Prosecutor’s Office without detention.
Judge Lee Yoo-seop was the representative who imposed the fine through a summary judgment. This legal decision is applied to relatively minor cases, allowing for quicker resolution. Moreover, Suga can request a formal trial within seven days of the court’s decision if he disagrees with the ruling.

Suga’s drunk driving incident has sparked outrage among fans. Multiple sources stated that these fans sent flower wreaths near HYBE headquarters with messages asking Suga to leave the band.
As of this article’s writing, BTS’ Suga is fulfilling his mandatory military service, a requirement for non-disabled South Korean men. Moreover, BTS’ label agency has not commented on the ongoing case.
