In response to the public outcry, SM Megamall announced that the security guard involved in this incident has been dismissed from his position and will no longer be employed at any of their malls.

The management expressed regret over the situation, stating, “We regret and sympathize with the young girl who experienced an unfortunate incident outside our mall”.

They emphasized their commitment to inclusivity and condemned the actions of the security personnel.

The statement further noted that they have instructed their security agency to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

This incident highlights ongoing discussions between the need of attention and support to the marginalized and the possibility of another or ongoing modus operandi using children across the country.

As SM Megamall continues to address this situation, it remains to be seen how such incidents will influence policies regarding street vendors and security protocols, not just in their facilities but in other establishments.
