On Monday, August 19, the Senate Committee on Public Information and Mass Media ordered the detention of Jojo Nones after he was cited in contempt for continuous lying. Nones is one of the independent GMA contractors accused of sexually abusing actor Sandro Muhlach.
Committee chairperson Senator Robin Padilla approved the detention upon the motion of Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada.
During the third hearing of the investigation of Sandro Muhlach’s case, Estrada gave Jojo Nones multiple chances to reveal the truth about the accusations. Estrada wanted to know whether Nones told Sandro’s father, Nino Muhlach, that he would donate to a charity of their choice in exchange for their forgiveness.

Nino Muhlach said that they offered the donation in the presence of GMA Network, Inc. Senior Vice President Annette Gozon-Valdes, who signed an affidavit that the offer indeed happened.
“I was asking you a while ago if you offered Mr. Nino Muhlach financial contribution to any charitable institution of his own choice and you denied it. Now, here comes the affidavit signed by Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes who, I think, is a very credible person, saying that you did offer financial contributions to any charitable institution of his choice. What can you say?” Estrada said.
Nones denied the allegations and repeatedly refuted claims that he and Richard Cruz, the other accused, instructed Sandro Muhlach to sniff drugs before sexually abusing the actor.

“Itong si Jojo Nones palalabasin lang namin pag magsasabi ng totoo yun during the next hearing if there is still next hearing. He is continuously lying before this committee, buking na eh may affidavit na, nagsalita na sa imbestigasyon ko nagsalita na yung bata, hanggang ngayon matigas pa rin kayo,” Estrada said.
“There was really a sexual abuse. There was really sexual abuse. They kept on denying it. They kept on denying it,” Estrada told reporters after the hearing.
Jinggoy Estrada also said that there’s also a possibility that Richard Cruz might also be detained.
“Di naman nagsasalita yung isa eh. Baka sumunod na rin yan kasi yung tungkol sa sexual abuse, sexual assault eh talaga kasi pag binasa mo lahat yun, malaswa eh, malaswa hindi hindi, that’s not for public consumption yun talaga yung ginawa, yung detalyadong ginawa sa bata,” Estrada said.
