SB19 are making waves with their biggest comeback “DAM,” which is part of the group’s most-anticipated EP Simula at Wakas.
In a recent interview with Philippine Star, the members—Pablo, Stell, Josh, Ken, and Justin—shared insights into their creative process and the unique blend of genres that characterize this new single.
When asked about how they arrived at the distinctive combination of musical styles for the song, Pablo explained, “In terms of music, formula po talaga ng SB19 ‘yung parang nag-iiba-iba ng tunog sa isang music.”
“Kasi, we’re trying to highlight ‘yung ability ng bawat members,” he added.
He emphasized the group’s willingness to experiment, stating that they aim to incorporate various elements into their music to keep it interesting.
Josh also supported Pablo’s statement, saying, “Lahat naman pwede nating pagsama-samahin. Basta it works if na-feel namin, and na-deliver ‘yung message ng maayos.”
The songwriting process for DAM also mirrored SB19’s previous works. Pablo shared that they treat each song like a diary, capturing their feelings and emotions as a group.
“We treat every song din po namin [na] parang diary,” he said.
He also remarked the ambitious nature of their project, “2019 pa lang alam na namin na epic ‘yung tunog nito dapat parang malaking sound.”
Discussing the risks involved in creating DAM, Josh pointed out that the concept itself was a significant leap for the group.
“I feel like kasi the concept itself—‘yung music video po ‘yung pinaka-ambitious na siguro,” he said, “Then the concept kasi medieval po siya.”
The medieval theme of the music video reflects SB19’s desire to push boundaries and create something truly memorable.
Josh also emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating, “Basta tama ‘yung mga tao na nasa paligid mo, whatever happens or whatever struggles or challenges, malalagpasan ‘yun basta open na nag-wowork together.”
