Sandra Bullock’s husband, Bryan Randall, died at the age of 57 after a three year battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
“It is with great sadness that we share that on Aug. 5, Bryan Randall passed away peacefully after a three-year battle with ALS,” the family stated.
Randall’s family stated that he wanted to keep his fight against ALS private, as the family respected his decision and did not talk about it. “We are immensely grateful to the tireless doctors who navigated the landscape of this illness with us and to the astounding nurses who became our roommates, often sacrificing their own families to be with ours.”
“At this time we ask for privacy to grieve and to come to terms with the impossibility of saying goodbye to Bryan.” The statement was then signed “His Loving Family.”
ALS is a disease that affects the nervous system directly to the nerve cells in the brain or spinal cord. ALS causes loss of muscle control and gets worse over the time span.
Randall’s family asked for donations towards the ALS Association and Massachusetts General Hospital.
Bullock and Randall started dating after they met on Bullock’s son’s birthday in 2015. The two were seen walking together in the red carpet debut for “Our Brand Is Crisis” premiere in Los Angeles in 2015.
The couple had three kids, two of which were adopted kids of Bullock and a daughter of Randall from a previous relationship.
As they were dating, Bullock said that she did not need to be married to Randall to be in a committed relationship. She states, “I don’t want to say do it like I do it, but I don’t need a paper to be a devoted partner and devoted mother.”
Sandra Bullock’s sister praised her for being a caretaker for Randall. Although she is an Oscar winner, she is devoted to taking care of her partner through hardships.
