HEAT INDEX UPDATE – DOST-PAGASA reports that Iba Zambales has reached the ‘Extremely Dangerous’ heat index classification at 53°C. The alarming situation reveals the imminence of heat stroke in Zambales. Consequently, more areas in the Philippines, totaling forty (40) places, have a heat index classified as ‘Dangerous’ in its effects. With apparent temperatures ranging from 42-51°C, heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely in these areas.

Yellow Orange Warning 33-41°C: Extreme Caution

Heat cramps and heat exhaustion are possible. Continuing activity could lead to heat stroke.

Orange Warning 42-51°C: Danger

Heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely; heat stroke is probable with continued exposure.

Red Warning 52°C: Extreme Danger

Heat stroke is imminent.

Meanwhile, PAGASA advises the public to take precautions due to the elevated heat index. According to Solis, spokesperson for PAGASA, individuals are encouraged to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and to minimize outdoor activities, particularly from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., when temperatures are at their peak. Solis also emphasizes avoiding beverages such as tea, soda, and alcohol, as they can exacerbate dehydration.
