MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Miss Universe 2022, R’Bonney Gabriel revisits her childhood as she comes back to the Philippines to visit her dad.
The Filipino-American Miss Universe filmed her visit and spoke about her experience on her Instagram page on May 16. She posted several photos of her visiting Barangay 743 in Malate, handing out food and school supplies to the children.
“To have the opportunity to come back to my father’s home street and celebrate with the community makes my heart so happy,” she wrote in the caption. “We were able to hand out meals and provide school supplies for all the children. I loved seeing familiar faces.”
Gabriel reminisced about her childhood when she was living in the area, remembering the kindness her neighbors gave her.
“I spent many summer days playing on this street as a child. From walking to buy pandesal in the morning, playing in the rain when it flooded, watching the fiesta parade, and sweating in the heat playing tongits on the plastic tables,” she also wrote in the caption. “This street showed me how different my life was in America and taught me how to be grateful for everything I have.”
Gabriel then described her visit as one of the best days of her life stating how community and family is everything for her.
“To be able to visit again after everything and give back to a place so close to my heart is one of the biggest blessings of Miss Universe,” she ended her caption.
