The Emmys 2024 occurred in Los Angeles on Monday evening, January 15 (January 16 on Manila time), following a delay caused by the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.
Anthony Anderson, the actor, comedian, and game show host, served as the host for this year’s event. The eligibility period for television programs considered for recognition spanned from June 1, 2022, to May 31, 2023.
During the event, Anderson playfully referred to Emmys 2024 as “the Chocolate Emmys.” However, on a more serious note, the 2023 Emmys marked a significant occasion for the recognition and achievement of Black women and people of color.
Ayo Edebiri and Quinta Brunson achieved a historic feat at the beginning of the evening by winning consecutive Emmy awards. They became the sole Black women to ever receive honors for both Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy in the same year.
The shows “The Bear,” “Beef,” and “Succession” dominated most of their relevant categories, while Elton John attained EGOT status. Additionally, Ali Wong made history by becoming the first Asian woman to secure an Emmy for a leading role in any category.
