Four iconic Filipino figures — Nora Aunor, Pilita Corrales, Gloria Romero, and Margarita Forés — will receive the prestigious Presidential Medal of Merit for their significant contributions to Philippine culture and the arts.

Malacañang announced the awards on Tuesday, April 23, recognizing the recipients’ influence and excellence in their respective fields.

The Office of the President, through a proclamation signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., honored their dedication to nation-building through film, music, and cuisine.

The Presidential Medal of Merit acknowledges Filipinos and foreign nationals who have made exemplary achievements that benefit the nation. 



Nora Aunor, dubbed the “Superstar,” gained acclaim for her prolific acting career and socially relevant films. 

Pilita Corrales, the “Asia’s Queen of Songs,” helped elevate Filipino music on the international stage. 

Gloria Romero, a veteran actress, has maintained her stature as one of the most respected figures in Philippine cinema. 

Margarita Forés, an acclaimed chef, has advanced Filipino cuisine globally through her culinary expertise.



The awarding ceremony will be held at Malacañang Palace on May 4, 2025.

The recognition forms part of the government’s continued support for the development and promotion of Filipino heritage.

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) endorsed the awardees for their lasting impact and contributions. 



The move aims to inspire future generations to pursue excellence in creative fields and preserve Filipino identity through arts and culture.

By granting the Medal of Merit, the government underscores the importance of honoring cultural icons who shape the national narrative.
