Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes revealed during a press conference that Natalie Rupnow, who went by the name Samantha, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after the attack.

The emergency response was initiated by a brave second-grade student, estimated to be 7 or 8 years old, who called 911 to report the shooting. Police arrived swiftly, but the attack had already concluded.
