ILIGAN CITY, PHILIPPINES — In a buy-bust operation in Barangay Maria Cristina, Iligan City on Saturday night, agents from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Region 10 (PDEA-10) stopped the entry of PHP27 million worth of illegal drugs into Northern Mindanao.
The suspect, Arnel Asuncion, was captured with the marked money and five plastic wrappers carrying the prohibited material, the kind and quantity of which has yet to be determined by the Regional Laboratory Service.
“We have been monitoring him for two months now. He was driving alone from Lanao del Sur and our agents negotiated with him in Iligan City with PHP500,000 as downpayment,” Montallana said in a media briefing.
Director of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region 10 Jigger Montallana shows the illegal material valued at PHP26 million that was confiscated from a lone suspect in Barangay Ma. Cristina, Iligan City, March 12, 2022. He is said to be a member of a large Mindanao syndicate, according to authorities.
“This is our objective, that we can capture bulks of illegal drugs in one operation. Once it enters the region, these substances will be repacked into grams and it would take time to trace them altogether,” he said. – WhatALife!
