The Philippine Men’s National Football Team had a strong start in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers by beating the Maldives 4-1 on March 25, 2025, at the New Clark City Stadium. 

This win puts the Philippines at the top of Group A, tied with Tajikistan but ahead due to better goal difference.

Randy Schneider, a new player from Switzerland, played a big role in the team’s success. 

He set up the play that led to Jefferson Tabinas finding the net, assisted by his brother Paul Tabinas. 



In the 19th minute, following a midfield interception by Manny Ott, Schneider provided a precise assist to Bjorn Kristensen, doubling the Philippines’ lead

The game started well for the Philippines with an early goal in the 6th minute. 

Schneider helped create this scoring chance. 

Later, he assisted another goal, making it 2-0. 

The Maldives scored once, but Schneider’s goal helped the Philippines regain a two-goal lead. 

The team sealed their win with a fourth goal in extra time.



The team’s president, John Gutierrez, praised the team’s performance and the fans who came to watch. 

The Philippines is set to face Group A top seed Tajikistan in June, aiming to build on this momentum in their quest for a spot in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.
