The local campaign period for the 2025 elections in the Philippines officially starts today, March 28, 2025.

This 45-day period will run until May 10, 2025, giving candidates time to present their platforms to voters.

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is reminding all candidates to strictly follow the election guidelines to ensure fair and orderly campaigning.

COMELEC Chairperson George Erwin Garcia emphasized that candidates must comply with these guidelines, as the Comelec now has the authority to enforce election laws fully.

National candidates began their campaigns earlier, on February 11, 2025.

Prohibited Campaign Dates

Campaigning is not allowed on specific dates to respect religious traditions and maintain election integrity:

  • April 17 – Maundy Thursday
  • April 18 – Good Friday
  • May 11 – The day before Election Day
  • May 12 – Election Day

Campaign Material Guidelines

To regulate campaign materials, the COMELEC has set specific size limits:

  • Pamphlets/Leaflets: Maximum size of 8.5 inches by 14 inches
  • Posters/Standees: Limited to 2 feet by 3 feet
  • Streamers: Must be 3 feet by 8 feet, displayed only five days before an event, and removed within 24 hours after

These rules help control excessive campaign materials and promote environmental responsibility.

To prevent vote-buying, the COMELEC has relaunched the Committee on Kontra-Bigay.

Candidates and their supporters are urged to learn and follow all regulations to avoid penalties.

Adhering to these guidelines is crucial for a fair, peaceful, and credible election.

As Election 2025 approaches on May 12, 2025, the efforts of candidates, election officials, law enforcement, and voters will play a significant role in shaping the democratic future of the Philippines.
