PBA player John Amores and his brother are currently under police arrest for their involvement in a shooting incident in Laguna. According to reports, the shooting stemmed from a basketball fight.
The police report detailed that Amores had a heated argument with 32-year-old Lee Cacalda after a provincial basketball game. The former PBA player got off the motorcycle and chased Cacalda before shooting him. Reports confirmed that the motorcycle driver was Amores’s brother and that no one was seriously hurt.
“Nagkaroon ng dayo sa Barangay Salac, tapos may tawag na hindi napagkasunduan,” Police Major Bob Louis Ordiz stated.

“Then nagsimula doon sa hindi pagkakasunduan hanggang nagkaroon ng hamunan ng suntukan hanggang umabot sila sa Barangay Maytalang I at dun sila nagpangabot. Naghamunan ulit ng another suntukan then si John Amores may dala ng baril at pinaputukan ang victim.”
News of John Amores’s shooting got the police chasing the brothers, which ended with them surrendering at 1 AM. They are scheduled to undergo inquest proceedings for attempted murder charges.
“Nag-voluntary surrender po siya sa ating station at dahil nagkakaroon ng threat sa kanilang buhay. Sa kanilang pareho. Iyon lang po ang napagdesisyunan nila na natatakot na sila sa kanilang seguridad,” Ordiz reported regarding Amores’s surrender.

John Amores’s incident doesn’t start here. Back in 2022, he went berserk and punched a player in the middle of the game. Despite the situation, John Amores continued to play basketball and was even selected in the 20-23 PBA Draft by NorthPort. However, the current controversy leads fans to believe it would jeopardize his professional career.
As of the article’s writing, both the Philippine Basketball Association and NorthPort didn’t respond to the incident.
Recent news also shared that the victim’s mother, Shirley Cacalda, was rushed to the Lumban Police Station this Thursday Morning. Both ABS-CBN and GMA had an interview with the distraught mother, who shared her reaction regarding the situation her son went through. Lee Cacalda will pursue the case against the Amores brothers.
