It has been officially announced that A2Z can broadcast the PBA free-to-air. TV5 President Guido Zaballero announced on Tuesday, October 17 that the A2Z will be the free television channel to broadcast the PBA, beginning with the start of its 48th season.
“TV5 continues to be a strong supporter of the PBA and Philippine Basketball as a whole,” Zaballero stated. “The partnership with A2Z ensures that Filipinos nationwide have widespread access to LIVE PBA Games on free-to-air and opens up new audiences to experience the country’s top basketball league.”
Zaballero explained that the decision was reached through a collaborative agreement with Zoe Broadcasting Network and ABS-CBN to bring the PBA to A2Z. This partnership has also enabled the reinstatement of PBA games to their original primetime slot.
“We believe the PBA needs a dedicated home,” Zaballero stated during a press conference held at Diamond Hotel. He also followed with the statement: “We saw the possibility with [A2Z] and to continue building the PBA, we need to have a dedicated home for the league.”
Zaballero noted that the move to A2Z is in sync with TV5’s heightened focus on diversifying its programming, particularly by expanding its entertainment offerings. Through its collaboration with ABS-CBN, TV5 has gained the privilege to broadcast select high-rated primetime shows from its portfolio.
PBA games are scheduled to be televised every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Weekday games will be divided into time slots starting at 4 PM and 8 PM, while weekend games are set for 3 PM and 6:15 PM. Furthermore, viewers can catch the weekend programs, “Everybody, Sing!” and “I Can See Your Voice,” on the A2Z channel with delayed telecasts following the PBA broadcasts.
The PBA games will continue to be broadcast live on Cignal TV, Cignal Play, and the Pilipinas Live mobile app and website. The 48th season of the PBA is set to commence on November 5, featuring the opening match between Mongolia and TNT at the Araneta Coliseum.
