The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) announced that the government didn’t organize the English pop band Duran Duran’s performance on Marcos’ birthday. Instead, they stated the president’s old friends carried out the event.

Political vlogger Sass Rogando Sasot shared a photo of the band playing onstage. She called all Filipinos to attend the gathering, citing that their taxes fund the event.

In response, the office issued the following statement on Saturday:

“After a tiring day filled with official engagements, he attended a party thrown by his old friends at a hotel in Pasay, and to his surprise and appreciation, music was provided by Duran Duran.”

The statement continues: “The President celebrated his birthday with his signature compassion for the needy and the sick and his deep appreciation for the farmers who feed the nation.

He opened the gates of Malacañang, where food booths awaited people from all walks of life who came from near and far to greet him a happy birthday.”

Last Friday, the PCO announced that President Marcos had allocated more than ₱300 million to public tertiary hospitals for the public in celebration of his birthday. The PCO confirmed that President Ferdinand Marcos’s birthday party took place in Pasay Hotel.

At the time of writing, the POC gave no further details about Duran Duran’s presence at Marcos’s birthday.

The band Duran Duran is recognized for their multiple hits back in the 1980s. Their blend of different music genres and catchy beats helps them create classics, such as “Hungry Like the Wolf” and “The Reflex.” Members of the band have not yet made any comments regarding their performance.
