PAGASA reports that the Shear Line will affect the eastern section of Mindanao, while the Northeast Monsoon will impact Luzon and Visayas.

WEATHER UPDATE TODAY – January 18, 2024

Caraga, Davao Region, and Northern Mindanao will encounter cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms caused by the Shear Line. Moderate to heavy rains may cause possible flash floods and landslides.

Cagayan Valley and Aurora will experience cloudy skies with light rains due to the Northeast Monsoon. These conditions are not expected to cause significant disruption.

Metro Manila, Visayas, and the rest of Luzon is expected to encounter partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains caused by Northeast Monsoon. These weather conditions are not expected to cause any impact to the said area.

The rest of Mindanao can anticipate partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the Localized Thunderstorms. Possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms may occur.

Based on PAGASA’s Wind and Coastal Water forecast:

  • The northern and eastern sections of the country will experience strong northeast winds, causing rough coastal water conditions (2.8 to 4.0 meters).
  • The rest of the country will experience moderate to strong northeast winds, leading to moderate to rough coastal waters (1.2 to 3.7 meters).

The Shear Line surrounding the eastern sections of Mindanao leads to diverse weather conditions in the said portion of the country as of today. The Northeast Monsoon is also expected to impact the rest of the country, which includes rain showers, thunderstorms, and cloudy skies.

These weather patterns can cause moderate to severe floods or landslides and affect coastal regions with different wind intensities.

Everyone is encouraged to stay informed about weather predictions, implement necessary precautions, remain vigilant of their environment, and be ready for possible emergency situations.
