MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The Department of Education (DepEd) stated on Monday that classes in public schools at all levels will be postponed from May 2 to 13 due to activities related to the May 9 national elections.
Grade levels covered are from kindergarten to Grade 12.
In the May 9 polls, some 320,000 DepEd teaching and non-teaching workers will serve as Board of Election members, according to Undersecretary Alain Pascua.
“Inilaan ang mga nasabing araw upang magampanan ng mga guro at kawani ng DepEd ang kanilang election-related duties,” the agency stated in an advisory.
(These days are set aside for DepEd teachers and staff to perform their election-related duties)
The agency added that despite the class suspension, teachers are expected to report to work, even on days when there are no election-related obligations or activities.
The national elections in 2022, the first to be held in the midst of a pandemic, are likely to draw over 60 million voters.
