Netflix confirmed that it’s developing an animated series of ‘Midnight Sun,’ Stephenie Meyer’s companion book to her hit vampire novel ‘Twilight.’

Released in 2020, Midnight Sun retells the story of Twilight through the perspective of the male protagonist, Edward Cullen.

According to Variety, the project was first reported to be in early development at Lionsgate Television in April 2023. Michael Burns, Lionsgate’s Vice Chairman, later announced that it would be an animated series with Netflix.

Sinead Daly, who worked on The Walking Dead: World Beyond, Raised by Wolves, and The Get Down, will write the series.

Author Stephenie Meyer will serve as executive producer for the show, alongside Meghan Hibbett for Fickle Fish Films. Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen for Temple Hill Entertainment and Erik Feig and Samie Kim Falvey for Picturestart will also serve as producers.

Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series consists of four books: Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn. They were published between 2005 and 2008. The books became such a major hit that they were adapted into a film franchise, collectively known as The Twilight Saga, between 2008 and 2012.

It starred Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner. The five films made a whopping $3 billion at the global box office.

The 12 chapters of ‘Midnight Sun’ were originally published on Stephenie Meyer’s official website in 2008. When it was eventually completed 12 years later, the novel sold more than one million copies in the first week.

Although it would be a dream for ‘Twilight’ fans to see Stewart and Pattinson in the animated series, it’s highly unlikely that the two will appear. In interviews in 2018, the pair often answered in sarcasm when asked if they would be up for a reboot of the franchise.
