The latest trailer of Mufasa: The Lion King has been released. It gives a further peak of the movie’s plot and the relationship between Mufasa and Scar. The trailer was revealed at D23 and later on on Disney’s official YouTube.
“Like all of you, ‘The Lion King’ made an indelible mark on me,” Director Barry Jenkins commented regarding the movie.
“Hearing the music and feeling every emotion as the story unfolded, a father bestowing a legacy upon his son, a pride being built anew, and a young lion rising to his destiny. Telling his story is an absolute honor.”

In the trailer, Rafiki, the mandrill advisor, tells a story to Kiara, Simba and Nala’s young daughter, the childhood story of Mufasa and Scar, whose real name is revealed to be ‘Taka’.
The trailer then shows a young Mufasa floating on a broken branch before meeting Taka. After Taka rescues him, the two bond and become ‘brothers’. Aaron Pierre will voice Mufasa, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. will voice Taka.
The film takes a different approach from how the two were originally portrayed, from Mufasa’s origins to Taka’s personality differing from the iconic villain’s usual portrayal. The young Taka rescued Mufasa and was interpreted to be adapted to his pride.
The trailer further shows the film’s main antagonist, Kiros leading a pride of white lions and emphasizing his role in the film with the quote: “There will be one lion king.”
‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ trailer also showed fan-favorites Timon the Meerkat and Pumbaa the Warthog returning for the film. The comedic duo’s roles have been confirmed to provide colored commentary to Rafiki’s tale.
