Asia’s Phoenix and Filipina singing sensation Morissette Amon sat down with Melai Cantiveros on Kuan On One for a fun and revealing conversation. 

While the interview covered various aspects of her life and career, one of the highlights was her discussion about her past conflict with her family and their eventual reconciliation.

Morissette shared that she was estranged from her family for five years, a period filled with emotional turmoil. 

She admitted that one of the most challenging times in her career was when her personal struggles became public, particularly the falling-out she had with her parents. 

“Affected gyud kaayo ko kay family baya na… I think sa tanan guro na issue mugawas diha, makaya raman intawon pero kung family jud, lisod jud kaayo siya ilaban…ayaw lang jud ang family.”

She described how painful it was to be apart from her family, especially since they had always been her source of strength. However, with time and healing, she and her family found their way back to each other. 

The issue, which gained media attention in 2019, deeply affected her, especially since it involved not just her but also her then-boyfriend and now-husband, Dave Lamar.

Morissette credited her fans, the Mowinatics, for orchestrating a surprise reunion between her and her family during a fan event in June.

“Actually niabot siya sa point nga naghinuwatay nalang mi…Nagkahiyaan gali. Nagkaulaw-ulawan nami.” 

“I’m proud to say actually, nga efforts pud ni siya sa akong fans.” she added.

Morisette recalls the time where they were brought into a room with her sibling, his wife and their mother waiting.

The emotional moment brought them all to tears and marked the beginning of their renewed bond.

Now, Morissette embraces the lessons she learned from that difficult chapter in her life. She expressed gratitude for the growth and independence she gained during those years, which also allowed her parents to focus on her younger sibling. 

Looking back, she believes that their time apart helped them appreciate each other even more. Emphasizing that her experience made her become independent and mature.
