The latest installment of Netflix’s Monster anthology series, “The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story,” has just released its first official trailer. The reveal has left a big impression online in several ways.

Seeing the success of Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Netflix revealed that it plans to expand the series based on real-life murder cases.

The trailer shows Erik and Lyle exiting the car armed with shotguns, entering their home at night, and subsequent shots being fired. The trailer then reveals how the brothers navigate the nightmares, guilt, and joy that come after the murder in the time before they are arrested.

Nicholas Chavez and Cooper Koch will take on the roles of Lyle and Erik Menendez. Joining them includes Javier Bardem as the sibling’s father, José Menendez, and Chloë Sevigny as Kitty Menéndez.

“The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story” tells the shocking story of how the Menéndez brothers were convicted of murdering their parents. The prosecution has argued that the siblings carried the horrid deed to inherit their family’s fortune. They use examples of how they have purchased various expensive items as evidence.

However, the brothers have claimed that they committed the murders out of fear. They describe how they are afraid of facing a lifetime of physical and sexual abuse at the hands of their parents. These statements even garnered a massive following of sympathizers as a result.

José Menéndez was allegedly abusive towards his sons and would have his way with them on different occasions. According to the case, multiple sources, including the sibling’s cousin, testify the abuse is legitimate. However, both Lyle and Erik were sentenced to life in prison in March 1996.

“Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” is highly anticipated as it is based on a national sensation in the ‘90s. It will be available on stream on September 19.
