After 10 years, the widely-famous mobile game Flappy Bird is set to return to iPhone and Android devices in 2025.

People have, and still remember, the game for its unforgettable approach. The game’s goal is to keep a floating bird from hitting the green pillars by tapping on the screen. What was supposed to be a simple game of tapping has turned into a huge icon back in 2014.

It was considered fun, stupid, and rage-inducing at the time while still being an addictive entertainment. Media outlets have even covered stories related to Flappy Bird and how it gave everyone the definition of an “unwinnable” challenge.

People have spent hours in the game, half to most desperately trying to pass through the fifth level.

However, in the same year of its release, ‘Flappy Bird’ creator Dong Nguyen shocked the world by pulling the game out of the App Store and Google PlayStore.

According to Nguyen himself, the reason why Flappy Bird was removed was how its popularity affected his personal life.

“I can call Flappy Bird a success of mine. But it also ruins my simple life. So now I hate it,” Nguyen stated.

Flappy Bird’s download numbers are confirmed to be around 90 million, and it is raking in $50,000 a day in ad revenue.

Many believed that was how the game’s story ended and moved on. However, on September 13, 2024, a small group known as the “The Flappy Bird Foundation” announced that they had acquired the rights to the game and plan to release it in 2025.

Additionally, they revealed they wish to launch an expanded version of the game through multiple platforms outside mobile devices. Moreover, the foundation also shared plans for future game releases with new game modes, progressions, and multiplayer challenges.

Michael Roberts, the chief creative of the foundation and the game’s return, said the following:

“We are beyond excited to be bringing back Flappy Bird and delivering a fresh experience that will keep players engaged for years to come.  We have big plans for our little Bird!”
