American singer Miley Cyrus is facing a lawsuit for allegedly copying Bruno Mars’s hit song “When I Was Your Man.”
According to the lawsuit filed on Monday in Los Angeles, Tempo Music Investments claimed Cyrus’s song “Flowers” copied several elements from it. Details have also clarified that the company is suing Cyrus, Not Mars himself.

“‘Flowers’ duplicates numerous melodic, harmonic, and lyrics of ‘When I Was Your Man,’ including the melodic pitch design and sequence of the verse, the connecting bass-line, certain bars of the chorus, certain theatrical music elements, lyric elements, and specific chord progressions,” Tempo Music Investments stated.
They also added: “It is undeniable based on the combination and number of similarities between the two recordings that ‘Flowers’ would not exist without ‘When I Was Your Man.’”
Tempo Music Investments is seeking damages, the amount of which will be determined at trial. The company also demands a court order prohibiting Cyrus and other defendants from performing or reproducing the song “Flowers.”

Following the controversy between “Flowers” and “When I Was Your Man,” fans began to speculate that the former could have been a “response” to the latter. Much like Tempo Music, they have also pointed out the similarities between the two music.
