Miley Cyrus becomes emotional as she is honored as the youngest Disney Legend. The singer had risen to fame due to her role as Hannah Montana, which aired back in 2006 when she was just 13 years old.
Miley Cyrus’ Disney Legend status was announced during the fan convention D23 on Sunday. Upon receiving her reward, she received a huge standing ovation from the 12,000 attendants.

In her emotional speech, Cyrus said she was “still proud” for being Hannah Montana. She also told the audience about how things have changed and have not changed since her breakout role.
“We needed footage of her playing sold out concerts but no-one knew who she, aka Miley, was,” Cyrus said in her speech. “Tickets were given away at a shopping center, where I would have my first free concert. In reality I was a little girl in a blonde wig at the mall with a big dream. But in my heart I was Hannah Montana and I was so proud to be.”
Cyrus ends her speech: “This award is dedicated to Hannah and all of her amazing, loyal fans, and to everyone who has made my dream a reality. To quote the legend herself, ‘This Is The Life’.”
Cyrus continued to thank Disney and her fans on her Instagram. She also joked that she was not created in a lab, a nod to the rumors spread by both fans and Disney staff. Since departing from the role in 2013, she has focused on her solo career. And ever since, Miley Cyrus’ concerts have garnered thousands of fans and sold out tickets.

Miley Cyrus is not the only star to receive the Disney Legend recognition. Hollywood actor Harrison Ford also received the recognition on the same night. The actor was holding back tears at the news.
Harrison said he was “really delighted and a little bit embarrassed” to be honored but also “so very grateful.” He also added that he is privileged to be an “assisted storyteller.”
To be named a Disney Legend is the highest honor bestowed by the company. The recognition is given to anybody “whose talent and achievement have earned them an enduring place in our history.”
