MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The Rangers are back! On March 22, Netflix released the newest trailer of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always, a mighty morphin reunion in celebration of the franchise’s 30 years anniversary.
The anniversary special features the return of some of the original cast members, including:
- David Yost as Blue Ranger Billy Cranston,
- Walter E. Jones as the first Black Ranger Zack Taylor,
- Catherine Sutherland as the second Pink Ranger Katherine Hillard,
- Steve Cardenas as the second Red Ranger Rocky DeSantos,
- Karan Ashley as the second Yellow Ranger Aisha Campbell, and
- Johnny Yong Bosch as Adam Park.
The second Black Ranger also appears in the film. It also includes Barbara Goodson as Rita Repulsa and Richard Steven Horvitz as Alpha 5.
In the Netflix trailer, the rangers reunite to fight the villain Rita Repulsa, who is revealed to have killed Trini Kwan, the original Yellow Ranger. Following the death of Trini, her daughter Minh Kwan will take her place as the Yellow Ranger, who will be portrayed by Charlie Kesh.
“Thirty years after the wise and powerful Zordon formed the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the team comes face to face with a familiar threat from the past,” the logline reads. “In the midst of a global crisis, they are called on once again to be the heroes the world needs. This 30th-anniversary special is inspired by the legendary mantra from the franchise ‘Once a Ranger, Always a Ranger,’ meaning once you become part of the Ranger family, you are always welcome back.”
One notable absence from the cast is the late actor Jason David Frank, who played Tommy Oliver, the Green Ranger and White Ranger, who died in November 2022.
Original Pink Power Rangers Amy Jo Johnson Explains Absence From Netflix Anniversary Special
After the announcement of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always reunion special on Netflix in January, many fans were surprised that the original Pink Power Ranger, Amy Jo Johnson, was not part of the cast members.
The 52-year-old actress went to Twitter to put an end to the speculations of many and explained the reason why she won’t be appearing in the Special: “Please stop saying I didn’t do the reunion because of money. Simply not true,” she wrote. “Maybe I just didn’t want to wear spandex in my 50s or couldn’t go to NZ for a month. Or none of your beeswax. JDF and I both chose not to for our own reasons. They filmed before he passed.”
Amy looked forward to watching some of her original castmates as the special will be aired.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always hits on Netflix on April 19.
