Microsoft officially shut down Skype on May 5, 2025, ending more than two decades of service and directing users to migrate to Microsoft Teams.

Teams, already integrated with Microsoft 365 services, support modern communication needs better than Skype.

Skype will remain accessible for a limited time during the transition period. 

Microsoft encouraged users to act quickly to prevent losing access to important messages and files.

Teams is available for free on mobile and desktop, offering features like one-on-one calls, group video meetings, chat, and file collaboration, making it the official replacement for Skype.
