Mexican actor Manuel Masalva, known for Narcos: Mexico, is in a medically induced coma after contracting a severe bacterial infection during a recent trip to the Philippines.
The 34-year-old actor, who played Ramón Arellano Félix in the popular Netflix show, was in the Philippines for work before traveling to Dubai.
After arriving in Dubai on March 18, Masalva started feeling very sick and experienced severe pain.
On March 26, he had to undergo emergency surgery to treat the infection, which had spread to his lungs, putting his life in danger.
Doctors have identified the bacteria and are giving him antibiotics to help him recover.
Masalva’s manager reported that his lungs are slowly responding to the treatment, and his condition is improving bit by bit.
To help with the growing medical bills, fellow actor Mario Morán has started a fundraising campaign, which has already raised over $50,000.
