Host, actress, and comedian Melai Cantiveros-Francisco had her moment at yesterday’s Asia Artist Awards (AAA) 2023 in the Philippine Arena in Bulacan.
When IVE’s Jang Won-young, one of the show’s emcees, asked Cantiveros-Francisco how she felt about attending the event, Cantiveros responded that she felt honored to be invited.
“I feel like I am the first honor, a valedictorian,” she added.
When asked who among the star-studded attendees she wanted to meet, Cantiveros-Francisco said she wanted to meet her idol Kim Seon-ho and girl group NewJeans.
Cantiveros-Francisco later won the Best Actor Award for the film Ma’am Chief: Shakedown in Seoul. She drew laughs as she quipped, “If someone question why I have award, don’t worry. I question too. I just receive an award all my life from my mother and father when they are angry to me. Tonight, my heart is kuan. I think it’s because God moves in mysterious ways,” during her acceptance speech.
She ended her speech on a heart-warming note by thanking the director and production team, then offering the award to her fellow co-stars.
The movie was filmed in South Korea in July, where she took her followers on a tour of the country as she shared glimpses and antics on her social media accounts.
Others that won the Best Actor Award are stars from Business Proposal, Kim Sejeong and Ahn Hyo-seop, Lee Dong-hwi and Lee Junhyuk. Meanwhile, the P-Pop group SB19 won the AAA Best Artist Award (Singer) with LE SSERAFIM, AKMU, ITZY, IVE, and The Boyz.
Cantiveros-Francisco’s fellow Filipino actors, Kathryn Bernando and Daniel Padilla, also won the AAA Fabulous Award alongside NewJeans, Stray Kids, and Lim Young-woong.
The AAA is a South Korean award ceremony that annually recognizes Asian actors, artists, and music groups for their accomplishments in the industry. The first ceremony took place at Kyunghee University, South Korea in 2016. Yesterday was the first time the event was hosted in the Philippines.
