Maya launched its new Black premium credit card to expand credit access for Filipinos, following the success of the Maya Landers credit card last year.
Maya aimed to provide a mobile-first, digital-only credit experience for users who often lack access to traditional banking services.
Maya developed the Black card using proprietary transactional data, alternative data sources, and AI-driven credit models.
The platform assessed and approved applicants quickly, even those without a credit history.
The Maya Black credit card offered fast approval, instant issuance of a virtual card through the Maya app, and delivery of a physical card within five to seven days.
The card carried no annual fees.
It also stored all card details securely inside the app, where users could freeze or replace their cards instantly.
Cardholders earned Maya Miles for every purchase, tracked in real time.
They could redeem points and convert them into airline miles like Philippine Airlines’ Mabuhay Miles, or exchange them for other travel rewards.
Cardholders gained access to airport lounges through DragonPass, including PAGSS and Marhaba lounges in NAIA.
Maya Group President Shailesh Baidwan explained that the company sought to democratize credit card access, citing that only 15 percent of Filipino adults currently held credit cards based on Q4 2023 TransUnion data.
Maya Bank President Angelo Madrid stated that Maya Black targeted Millennials and Gen Z consumers who expect instant, mobile-first banking services.
Applicants needed to update their Maya app before applying for the new card.
Maya handled the entire process—from application to issuance to support—completely online, with no paperwork required.
Maya Black aimed to remove traditional banking barriers, providing more Filipinos with an opportunity to access credit easily and securely.
Maya Black Credit Card is a credit card that provides a premium, numberless Visa Platinum experience. It offers standard credit card features such as earning rewards, spending limits, and access to exclusive benefits, all within a mobile-first digital platform.
The Maya Black Mastercard is used for everyday purchases, both online and in-store, where Visa is accepted. It also allows users to earn Maya Miles, which can be redeemed for travel rewards, shopping, or converted into airline miles, all through the Maya app.
To qualify for a Maya credit card, applicants must download and update the Maya app. The application process is fully digital, and approval is based on Maya’s AI-driven credit scoring system, which can assess those without traditional credit histories. Additionally, applicants may opt for a secured card pathway if needed.
