Marvel Studios has released the first trailer for Captain America: Brave New World. Anthony Mackie will replace Chris Evans in the role. Julius Onah directed the film, written by Malcolm Spellman, Dalan Musson, and Matthew Orton.
After “Avengers: Endgame” and “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” Sam Wilson (the Falcon) becomes Captain America. Another notable actor making his Marvel debut is cinematic icon Harrison Ford, who is taking the role of Thunderbolt Ross. William Hurt previously portrayed the character until he died in 2022.
Additional stars include Danny Ramirez as the new Falcon, Carl Lubly as Isaiah Bradley, and Shira Hass as the superhero Sabra. The film will include many MCU throwbacks, with Liv Tyler returning as Betty Ross from 2008’s Incredible Hulk.
The trailer reveals several scenes of Sam Wilson interacting with Ross, who is now the president of the United States, in the story. The film also features Giancarlo Esposito as an unnamed character targeting Ross. The actor has played several major roles in successful series such as “Breaking Bad” and “The Mandalorian.”
As with many superhero films, the trailer shows many action clips. One notable dialogue comes from Ross taunting Wilson with the words, “You may be Captain America, but you’re not Steve Rogers.” The trailer ends with the reveal of fan-favorite The Red Hulk tossing the shield to the ground.
The film has undergone several reshoots and delays due to various factors, including the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. It has been in pre-production for a long time and was once titled “Captain America: New World Order” before officially changing to its current title. While the many changes and delays have disappointed many fans, the trailer’s release has reinvigorated interest in the film.
“Captain America: Brave New World” will be released in theaters on Feb. 12, 2025.
