marcos declares 5 holidays in october

On September 30, 2024, President Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos declared that there would be five special non-working holidays for October.

In Proclamation No. 693, the governor declared October 4 as a special non-working day in Infanta, Pangasinan, to celebrate its 148th anniversary. He also issued No. 694, declaring October 16 as a non-working holiday for the areas Lapuyan, Zamboanga del Sur, for its 67th anniversary.

Moreover, Proclamation No. 695 and 696 declared a special work-free day in Negros Occidental and Angeles City, Pampanga. These days are on October 25 and 26, respectively. The two proclamations cited reasons for celebrations for the localities’ two festivals.

President Marcos also declared October 28 a special non-working day in Dingle, Iloilo, allowing residents to participate in the commemoration of the “Cry of Lincud.” The declaration excites many citizens since there are few official national holidays in October 2024.

The list of 2024 Holidays in the Philippines by the Official Gazette confirmed that the only regular holidays are found in the following months:

  • January,
  • March,
  • April,
  • May,
  • June,
  • August,
  • November, and
  • December

December has the highest number of holidays, including special non-working holidays, while February has the lowest number of holidays.

Outside the announcement made by President Marcos, multiple holidays have been announced for October 2024. The Official Gazette confirmed that some regions have a non-working holiday on October 1. On the other hand, the Mountain Province will have its ‘Provincial Indigenous People’s Day’ on October 4.

However, some areas, including Cebu, do not have any special non-working days for this month. Furthermore, there have been no announcements on whether October 31 will be a special holiday for this year.
