Filipina actress Liza Soberano reveals her reasons for turning down Hollywood roles.

During an interview with Preview.ph, Liza revealed that she was offered multiple roles in the U.S., but the roles had a stereotypical Filipino narrative.

“After doing my press runs where I talked about being a Filipina actress, I constantly got offers for Filipino characters with very stereotypical arcs,” Liza said.

Liza mentioned that she followed the advice of her U.S. team to patiently wait for the right project to come to her.

She also stated that her goal in Hollywood isn’t just to be an excellent actress, but it’s also about carrying out her Filipino heritage without leaning into stereotypes.

“I don’t want to be limited or categorized based on my race. I want to one day be in the same conversations as other well-known actresses who star in projects that are up for Emmy and Oscar nominations,” Liza stated.

According to the long-time Filipina actress, turning down roles despite the tough competition in the filming industry doesn’t affect her much.

She also acknowledged that rejections will come her way, but she has, in a way, built an emotional immunity to them.

“I don’t really think about rejection. I’ve been in this industry long enough to understand how things work,” the actress admitted.

Liza Soberano is one of the most prolific actresses in the Philippines. She started her career in 2011 and had her breakthrough three years later in the drama series “Got to Believe.”

She has starred in several successful projects, including films like “Just The Way You Are” and “Everyday I Love You.”

Liza wanted to expand her career by taking on more challenging roles beyond romantic dramas. She also revealed her ambition to pursue a career in Hollywood, with her first major role being in the horror-comedy film “Lisa Frankenstein.”
