The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) has officially selected the last 5 out of 31 finished films for its 2024 edition.

“The final five films, chosen from a pool of numerous high-quality submissions, highlight the festival’s commitment to presenting a diverse array of stories – from heartwarming tales and comedies to thought-provoking dramas and epic adventures, ensuring a rich cinematic experience for audiences of all tastes,” the MMFF said.

MMFF Chairman Atty. Romando Artes shared that they received a record-breaking 70 entries this year. Just like last year, the 2024 edition will screen 10 entries.



The first five official entries for this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival were announced on July 16. The films are “And the Breadwinner Is…,” “Green Bones,” “The Kingdom,” “Himala: Isang Musikal,” and “Strange Frequencies: Haunted Hospital.”

Below are the latest 5 other entries for the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival:

My Future You

“My Future You” is a romantic comedy film written and directed by Crisanto Aquino. The plot revolves around two lovers from different timelines connected by a mysterious comet through a dating app. 

Uninvited

Directed by Dan Villegas and written by Dodo Dayao, “Uninvited” is a thriller that revolves around a mother who discreetly crash the birthday party of the billionaire who murdered her only daughter 10 years ago. 



Topakk

Topakk, directed by Richard V. Somes, tells the story of a former platoon leader turned security guard who must protect a girl from corrupt police officers.

Hold Me Close

The plot of “Hold Me Close” revolves around a man who has spent the last seven years moving from town to town worldwide in search of the perfect place to settle. 



When he arrives in a town in Japan, he meets a girl who has the special ability to tell if a person will bring happiness or harm to her life by touching them.

Espantaho

“Espantaho” follows a woman and her mother as they encounter several mysterious incidents following the arrival of a painting. The film is directed by Chito S. Roño, who is known for working on the acclaimed horror films Sukob and The Healing.

“As we commemorate our 50th year, we look back with pride at the growth and achievements of the MMFF,” Atres concluded as the announcement drew to a close.

But more importantly, we look forward to the future it helps to shape – one where Filipino cinema continues to thrive and inspire,” he added.

The 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival will run from December 25, 2024, to January 7, 2025, and will be available to the public nationwide.
