Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel will run against Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro for the Marikina City’s 1st District representative position.

Koko Pimentel’s wife, Kathryna Yu-Pimentel, and other family members accompanied him while he filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) at the time. He submitted his certificate on October 6 after Teodoro’s formal submission a day earlier.

During an ambush interview, Pimentel revealed that he was surprised by Teodoro’s transfer to the first district and that Teodoro encouraged him to run for the position.

“I will present myself to the people of Marikina as an alternative because Mayor Marcy invited us to run in District One. As a matter of fact, as a show of good faith, he moved to District Two to run there. But yesterday, he filed for District One.”

Senator Koko Pimentel also elaborated on his statement that Marcy Teodoro has no honor.

“Do not make promises you cannot keep. A man without a word of honor is nothing. That’s why the standard of living in Marikina, let’s raise it. That’s why I signed the pledge. It stated there – no lying, no gossiping; no maligning of others.”

In a separate incident, reporters have asked Koko Pimentel about his upcoming plans. He replied that his first focus was to revive the shoe industry and address the flood problems within Marikina City.

“First, the shoe industry. As a senator, I was involved in the free trade agreements. I saw there the importance of those shoes.

We should be able to benefit from the free trade agreement that we entered into in treaty forms. So I will make sure to revive the shoe industry in Marikina,” Pimentel responded.

“And, of course, the problem of flooding in the city. I experienced flooding twice. Kat also got flooded twice,” he added.

Lastly, he stated that he wanted to address the city’s debt.

“The debt of the city is huge. In fact, if you will make the debt per capita, divide by the population, I think one of the highest is Marikina. So, we need to focus on fiscal management in the city of Marikina.”

Teodoro did not provide any further comments regarding the position or his other future plans.
