MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Actress Kim Chiu wanted to highlight the ukay culture of the Philippines in the new Prime Video Series titled “Fit Check,” a collaboration with Dreamscape Entertainment.
Chiu felt that the project felt close to home for her. The series shows how colorful the setting is and how it portrays real life through the art she shows.
Ukay may be trash to some people, but it may be a gem for others. Although the person’s clothes may cost 100 pesos, they may feel like it is a million pesos because of their confidence. The price is not important at that point, its only the feeling of the person wearing it.
Chiu also wanted the viewers to be immersed in the country’s fashion scene.
“Parang napunta lang kami sa mundo nila portraying our own roles sa kwento. Nakakakilabot siya na nandun na kami and most especially sa location namin, pinakita namin ang ganda ng Maynila. ‘Pag napanood ‘to ng buong mundo, ganyan pala sa Manila, Philippines, maka-visit nga, and nakapag-shoot pa kami sa Manila Post Office bago ito masunog,” she said.
She mentioned they could shoot in the Manila Post Office before it burned down.
Although there was a tragic accident on the site, Chiu greatly showcased the locations of the Philippines. When the world watched the series, she wanted people to think, “ganyan pala sa Manila, Philippines.”
Co-star Christopher de Leon agreed to become part of the series because of Chiu’s brilliant idea for the project.
“It has a very unique concept, the ukay queen and the fashion world and then it promotes our culture. We have a great cast, we have good music. It has a big concept, big dream for this project so I have to grab it,” de Leon said.
Chiu’s experience in thrifting clothes at a young age made Miss INternational 2016 Kylie Versoza join the show.
“I don’t think Kim needed any help for her performance kasi kaya niya na talaga mag-isa. Honestly po, taga-Baguio ako so mahilig po talaga akong mag-ukay before and nung high school pa lang kami nag-uukay na kami, sanay na kami riyan,” Chiu said.
“So when it was pitched to me, it was a very special project to me and when offered the role of kontrabida, tinitignan ko po kasi rito kung paano ‘yung development ng character and nung ni-pitch po sa’kin, I really liked the character development of Stella, the role I’m playing,” she added. – WhatALife!/Zain
