Josh Cullen Talks About His Life Success Dreams and Fears

SB19’s Josh Cullen sits with Carl Gueverra of The Juans in a parking lot to discuss his life, success, dreams, and fears. They discuss Josh’s life and how he poured his experiences into his music. Moreover, they talk about his upcoming concert at The New Frontier Theater tomorrow.

Josh Cullen recently released his debut album, “Lost & Found.” With it, he’s also having his first-ever solo on September 28. The artist drew much inspiration from his album tracks from his life experiences.

Josh was always open about his past traumas and struggles and life. He shared that he experienced abuse as a child, having financial problems, and more. This is evident in his “Silent Cries” song, where he talks about a kid who had his childhood taken from him.

“I’ve lost all my life. ‘Yun mga siguro, ‘yung mga artists– pero baka lang naman, hindi pa sila natatalo, diba? Baka naexperience nila ‘itong fame, ‘yung success. Tas never silang natalo. So, parang minsan kasi– it gets into you.

Nangyayari talaga ‘yun eh, merong mga tawag sa ganyan eh. Pero alam mo parang minsan, kakainin ka talaga ng sistema,” says Josh.

He adds, “Na feeling mo, oh unstoppable ka. Namamayagpag ka, ikaw na ‘yung pinakasikat. Pero at the same time kung di mo narasan ‘tong katulad na hardships siguro na naransan ko bago ako mapunta dito.

So, parang the entire time gising ako. Lagi kong naiisip ‘yun na parang binabalikan ko ‘yung mga lowest point of my life.”

“Alam ko ‘di to forever. Kasi diba kung ganoon katagal bago ako nakarating dito. Ibig sabihin ‘yung years na ‘yun hindi biro ‘yung years of struggle and pain diba?” He concluded.

When talking about his fears, he says that he’s still scared of losing everything one day. He said that if one day, the world stopped listening to his music, he would never fear his next meal again. He also talks about making smart financial decisions so that he will never fear when his next meal will be.

“Everyday lagi kong iniisip ‘yan. Everyday kong sinesecond guess ‘yung mga puwedeng mangyari sa buhay ko na, “What if one day wala nang maniwala?’ ‘What if one day wala nang makinig?’ ‘What if one day mag fail lahat ng plans?’ diba?” says Josh Cullen.

He further points out that the world is round. Sometimes you’re at the top, and sometimes you’re at the bottom.

“Biggest fear ko is failure. I’ve lost all my life. So, laging talo lang. Laging ‘Bakit andito?’ ‘Bakit ganito ‘yung buhay ko?’ Alam mo ‘yun, laging akong nag-aask kang God before ‘Puwede Niyo po bang iligtas ako sa situation nato?’” the “1999” singer shared.

Additionally, he prayed, “Lord, make our days normal at least. Makakain lang, kahit– alam mo once a day nga lang ‘yung wish ko eh. Once a day makakain lang, ayos lang. Walang nag-aaway, happy na ako.

‘Yung biggest dream ko nung bata ako, I just want a normal life. ‘Yun lang, ‘yun na ang pinakamataas na pangarap ko.”

When he talked about his success, Josh Cullen said, “Hindi talaga fair ang mundo. Kahit balibaliktarin natin hindi magiging fair ang mundo ever. So, kung ano ‘yung mga bagay na hindi mo maikokontrol, let it be. And galawin mo ‘yung mga bagay na kaya mong kontrolin. That’s it.”

When talking about his album, “Lost & Found,” Josh shared that he sometimes couldn’t feel emotional while listening to it. The tracks from his debut albums showcase his vulnerable side as he turns his experiences into art.
