Jojo Nones, one of the GMA independent contractors who was allegedly accused of sexually harassing Sandro Muhlach, was released from Senate custody. Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero signed the release order on Wednesday, August 28.

The Senate cited Jojo Nones in contempt for refusing to answer questions regarding Sandro Muhlach’s case. He wrote an apology to Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada for his behavior during the committee’s third hearing on public information and mass media last Tuesday, which led to his release.

“I recognize that my words and tone may have come across as disrespectful and I deeply regret allowing my emotions to get the best of me,” Jojo Nones wrote in his letter to Estrada.

“The anxiety and stress I’ve been experiencing due to my detention unfortunately clouded my judgment and I did not express myself in the matter intended. Please know that it was never my intention to be disrespectful to you or the Senate,” he added.

Estrada said he wrote to Senator Robin Padilla, the chairperson of the committee. He stated he would not oppose lifting the arrest and detention order if the committee recommends it for ‘humanitarian reasons”.

Furthermore, Estrada also accepts Jojo Nones’ written apology and is aware of his health concerns and mental health.

“I received a letter of apology from him yesterday for his behavior during the hearing,” Estrada told reporters. “He acknowledged being disrespectful and expressed regret for his actions.”

“He said that the anxiety and stress from my detention clouded my judgment and led me to express myself poorly. Yun,” he continued.

The Senator also added, “Well, yes, I accept his apology, but I must warn him. If he repeats this kind of demeanor, he will face another penalty, and we may detain him again.”

Estrada expressed disappointment in Jojo Nones’ behavior during the hearing, “but I understand…he was always invoking his right against self-incrimination which I understand.”
