Jericho Rosales is set to bring the story of former Philippine president, Manuel L. Quezon, to life in an upcoming biopic directed by Jerrold Tarog. This marks the actor’s return to the big screen after The Girl in the Orange Dress (2018).

The film, Quezon, promises a deep dive into the life and times of one of the Philippines’ influential figures.

“I feel so honored to be with this team. Coming to a script like this which is so potent and so entertaining, I feel so lucky and happy,” he said.

Rosales also added that the complexity of Quezon’s character made him look forward to the portrayal he’ll deliver in the film.

The biopic marks another entry of Tarog’s “Bayaniverse,” which includes historical films Heneral Luna (2015) and Goyo: The Boy General (2018).

According to the director, Rosales’ charisma onscreen is the reason why he was given the role. He also revealed that the Quezon lead previously auditioned for the titular character Heneral Luna, in which the role was given to John Arcilla.

Joining the actor are Karylle as Aurora Quezon, Romnick Sarmenta as Sergio Osmeña, JC Santos as Manuel Roxas, and Cris Villanueva as older Joven Hernando.

Benjamin Alves, who played as young Quezon, and Mon Confiado are set to reprise their roles.

TBA Studios announced that the biopic is set to release this year. While details of the film are still emerging, fans are highly anticipating its premiere.

Quezon is expected to explore the former president’s political career, his leadership during a crucial period in Philippine history, and potentially delve into his personal life. It is poised to offer Quezon’s complexities, triumphs, and challenges.

Last year, the Film Development Council of the Philippines announced its funding support for the film, with additional backing from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
